Report from the June 14-16, 1999
RoK, 60th Anniversary Reunion,

On Monday, June 14, a plaque was unveiled in the House of Commons to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Kindertransport. The handsome bronze plaque reads:

In deep gratitude
to the people and Parliament
of the United Kingdom
for saving the lives of
10,000 Jewish and other children
who fled to this country
from Nazi persecution
on the Kindertransport
1938 - 1939

The unveiling was done by Madam Speaker of the House of Commons, Betty
Boothroyd, who made a brief speech recalling the history of the Kindertransports, and the role Parliament played.

Among the attendees were: the present and past Chief Rabbis of the United Kingdom, Bertha Leverton, Founder of the RoK, Bea Green, Kurt Goldberger, President of KTA, Kurt Fuchel, Past-President, Nicholas Winton who saved 600 Czech children, and a number of dignitaries and representatives of Jewish organizations in England.

The plaque can be found in a passageway close to St. Stephen's Gate, next to one in honor of Lady Astor, the first woman Member of Parliament.
